Tournament Non Boater what to bring list

Featured Replies

I was wondering what non boaters are expected to bring to a tournament to cover themselves? Should non boaters bring their own dink boards/scales/culling system/life jackets/ anything else you can think of?

As a non-boater I bring EVERYTHING that I will need for the day, at least to the ramp and then ask my boater what he wants me to bring onboard..and what he has room for....most boaters don't have 4 square inches of extra space on their boat...

As a boater I have extras of everything my non-boater might need including storage space...

but that's just me

at a minimum bring your own life jacket rain suite and culling system I have never had a boater that would supply any thing other than a life jacket I tell all my non boaters to bring their own that way I don't have to worry about it and at the cost of some of the culling markers I'm not forking over the money on 2 sets Don't get me wrong I Carry 2 life jackets and rain suites and have acquired enough culling markers for 3 or 4 people but its just don't want to have to dig it out.

I keep one rear box open for my non-boater to put things in.

Most guys don't so I sugest

no more than 5 rods, most guys don't maintain rod tiedowns for the non-boater

a tackle box that will fit between consoles of a boat when running, you'll put this in your seat while fishing to keep the isle open for netting fish

you'll have to ask your boater about food, water, and most events require you to split the cost of gas with the boater.

this along with your list will make for a good non-boater IMP.

My thing is I have big bulky cheap-o life jackets for my boat, and I dont wear them when running. I dont want to go out and spend 100+ on the small nice life jackets. I know there is limited space I fished in tournaments before and I dont know if there is a place for a bulkier jacket and I certainly dont wanna wear it if I dont have to. Every tournament I was in was either trolling motor only lake or I knew the boater and he had a life jacket.

You must wear lifejacket or get DQed In any of the events I fish.

Life jacket

Water / drinks for you

snacks

smaller tackle box (that will fit in most dry storeage boxes)

6 rods max (ask your boater)- you may want to bring one spare reel pre-strung if it will fit in your tackle bag

rain suit

gas money to give the boater ($30 or so)

culling system if you need one

That should do it.
