College Fishing

Recommended Posts

I first the first time today heard about colleges that have a fishing team and compete in tournaments. Some top notch schools such as Wakeforest, Duke, and Virginia Tech compete in these tournaments. I would like to know what guys think about these tournaments as well as general information like how to get onto a college fishing team. Also if anyone has fished in these tournaments or know someone who has post here.

I'm a member from auburn here. What colleges are you looking into, and i'll try and help you find out if they have a team.

Hey,

I see your from Massachusetts. I'm from there too, but I came down south for college and fishing, because this is where it's at. I'm on NC State's team, I don't think any colleges in MA have teams yet, not enough interest in bass fishing.

good luck man

Kozac, were you at Clarkes Hill?

And yea coming down south a little bit would definitely be beneficial for fishing. There are many more teams down here. Penn State is the team closest to you that I know of.

We are trying to get a team together at SUNY Geneseo. Our application for recognition by the school Club Sports Association is due on Friday, hopefully everything will go through ok. If everything goes as planned, we hope to fish the northern division of FLW's college fishing this summer. Other schools this far north that have teams that I know of are SUNY Plattsburgh and Cornell. If you go to collegefishing.com, you can click on tournament schedule and then see what teams are registered for the northern division qualifying tournaments. That should give you an idea of schools with teams in your area.

The tournaments are great.. I just fished the Western Division on saturday at Clear Lake. Its very organized, the stage is amazing and they make it fun. Sounded like everyone had a great time with their pros, and two teams fished with Jimmy Reese and Mike Folkstead.

Here's some pictures my brother posted for me from the tournament. You can check out the stage. They interview everyone that weighs in.

Yeah your absolutly right we have a very small fanbase for bass fishing way up here where theres still ice on the ponds and lakes. However i am looking to come down south to go to college like at wakeforest NC state, duke or possibly UNC. Is it easy to get onto a fishing team at a college? What do i need to do now if i wanted to fish for a college team

Don't worry about it. Fishing Teams are part of club sports. As long as you pay your dues and fill your forms you will automatically be accepted to the team. If the school you go to dosn't have a team, you can always form your own club. Down south there are a ton of teams fishing in the FLW events, so you might not be able to fish them your first year if your club elects to send upper classmen.
