Partner help

Recommended Posts

ok the guy i fish with is in his mid 40's I am 23 I like to fish shallow he does not, we use my boat for tournaments. He is one of those guys that always tells me about how he caught fish "back in the day", on this tree or that (like that fish is still there). I have known the guy all my life and really like him but quite frankly  I cant fish another 8 hr tourney with him. I get unfocused when he gets impatient. My club fishes every other sat. and I fish a 4 hr tourney by myself on thursdays. I seem to do better when I go alone. However, the saturday tournament, cost more. I have no problem fishing alone but the money is alot. I am not sure if I am asking for advice because there is not alot that can be done ,other than finding another partner. Maybe I am just ranting >:(

Yall probably need to learn eachothers styles to be successful together especially if its a team tourney. If its not and youre in your boat then tell him too bad youre in your boat...also if your pattern is not working out then you can give his a try..its the only way to learn and get better and make more money

You could do a few things. You could find a new partner. You could talk to him and say that you will use your patterns and type of fishing one tourney then his for the next. You could just not say anything and just fish your spots. If you catch fish fishing the way you like then stick to that. I have taken people out that stopped fishing at some points because they thought that I wasn't on fish, but then I would pull a a couple in or a nice fish in and they would be back in it. Make him a believer on your spots. It is also a good thing to try to learn both the deep and shallow. I have a hard time fishing the deep water. This could be your chance to learn his speciality. Think of it as a positive and not a negative.

A good partner is hard to come by. As a boat owner, I feel that when in a tournament, I have to drive, make most of the plans to fish certain places, and position the boat. My partner takes care of "all" the duties of weights and culling without me having to stop what I'm doing. We've been fishing together for 8 years and know what we "both" have to do during a tournament. If the spots aren't producing, we "both" agree to move. If you are fishing with a partner, just get to "know" each other and "know" how each other fishes. That way, if you like to fish shallow like I do, and he likes to fish deep, you guys can talk and find what you both think the fish are doing at that moment and adjust "TOGETHER", that is what makes a great partner... Old or new spots don't decide if your going to win, it's team work.... ;)
