Fish of the new year

Featured Replies

Well, its been raining for three straight days, its 35 degrees, windy, cloudy, and miserable. Lets go fishing! But really, its been about 1-2 months since ive been bass fishing. I decided to give it a go. Anyways, since the water is close to 40 degrees, i created a bait that i was very pleased with. An 1/8th oz. terminator finnese jig and a yum crawtube. Looks natural and sinks slower than any jig combo i know apparently the fish liked it. I caught 2 in a half hour, but had to leave because i was going to some buddies' house. First one was about 15", while the second was 17", and close to 3 lbs.

Well congrats dude! We went ice fishing today for the last time for a while. Just bought a new 300 dollar frabil shanty and look what happens :'( should have saved up and got a minnkota maxxum or something :-/ because the ice is gone and its time to break out the boat again in central Wisconsin. The river is wide open and your post is getting me that much more excited to get fishing. How much water were you fishing in?

Great job and nice fish.

Alright, in honor of the new year, im going to post some bass up that i shouldnt be catching in january in michigan. Anyways, i got two today on the same 1/8th oz. jig/crawtube combo, just a different color. My buddy caught 4 on tubes, biggest being around 13", smallest just around 10". I only caught two, the last two of the day after I tried everything and decided to go back to what worked last time out. Paid off. First is 15", second is 16". All 6 of our fish were caught in a boat this time, dont worry lifevests were only taken off for pictures.

15", im straight thuggin' here.

Btw, this was my first trip with my new Woo Daves Bps extreme rod and pfluger president. I love the super responsive tip that helps me feel the bites even with freezing hands, and the solid backbone gave me killer hooksets.

16", picture caught me by surprise. lol

Got skunked today, both of us. I had a bite on a x-rap, but missed it since it nailed it on the pause while i was un zipping my coat. Lost that lure a couple casts later. I had a lot of short strikes, bites with no fish. Probably because the water was this color, and they had trouble biting the whole lure i guess. I checked visibility with a black jig, 1" or less. Pretty tough conditions.

Rock- Nice job buddy.   8-)

Tip- when you are getting short strikes on a jig, shorten the trailer and trim down the skirt.  I also like to "thin out" most skirts.

now that i think about it, i believe i was using my ONLY jig that isnt trimmed and perfect. But honestly, its pretty challenging fishing in these conditions. Im serious when i said one inch of visibility. When i had a spinner bait tied on, i played with it on the surface next to the boat, i couldnt see the trailer because it was too deep in the water. So the visibility was about 1/2 a spinner bait.
