Cold water 'Traps in New England

Featured Replies

Today we went out to a spot that we haven't fished before. We figured it was worth a shot, was supposed to be in the high 60's in the afternoon so my partner skipped work. We hit the water at 6:30am. The water temp was a balmy 44*, depth varied anywhere from 3-8 ft. We started out with some small jigs figuring we would take it slow at first, then after about two hours I broke out the box of Traps. My partner Rick drew first blood with a 1/2 ounce red craw Rat L Trap, then about an hour later as I was ripping my Neon Spot I was rewarded with a nice fish, just shy of 2lbs. (my only fish of the day) Later, Rick caught two deuces in a row on the same red Trap, so he decided to keep it! Looks like I gotta go buy him one now!  ;D

All in all it wasn't too bad of a day, I made about 400 casts and only caught one fish, but it was still better than staying home  8-) We saw a small herd of deer taking a drink at the edge of the lake, and we had a small otter checking us out from about 20 feet. Who needs work?  ;)

Nice! That figures!  ;D We went to Sand Dam just because it's close to my buddy Rick's house. Wanted to get some more time in at RWP but also wanted to fish some clear water too. It was kind of a last minute deal.  8-)
