Somthing to keep in mind is that once you remove the male , if you have a livewell or somthing to contain the fish in that won't hurt it, put him in there, the female will move onto the nest next if there is one active on that bed.

Where did you post the question and when?  Nice fish!

Sorry...  I would have helped but I have limited experience fishing during the spawn (sight fishing).  The lake I fish is shallow, has a muck bottom, and the visibility is about 6 inches.  Like I said before, you figured it out on your own and that can be very rewarding!  Coming here and seeking advice is great but sometimes spending time on the water is the best education you can get!   :)
