Florida drop shottin'

Featured Replies

Florida is not famous for drop shotting. Our lakes are generally shallow with plenty of weed cover, but I have this really light spinning rod, a Loomis BSR 852 GLX. that I love to fish with. It's light, ultra sensative, and very well balanced. Problem was I just wasn't quite finding the ulitmate technique to take advantage of all it's outstanding qualities.

I decided to try dropshotting and . The sky's opened, the celestial choir sang, and peace and harmony ruled the universe.

I killed em.

It's the perfect drop shot rod. I spooled up with 6lb pline cxx. an owner #2 octopus hook, and the zoom finesse worm. I drifted over the deepest hole in the lake and caught one. Then I beached the canoe and cast into the hole. I was using a 1/6 oz bell sinker. I just kept haulin bass out of this deep spot. It goes down to over 15 feet, even with the lake low. It's sorta football shaped and maybe 75 feet wide by 50 accross. They were stacked up in there. It was great fun.

It was a numbers day. the biggest I boated was about 2.5. Of course I lost one that would have been close to 4, but it was a great day.

bowing is optional. 8-)

Ever tried a "power drop shot"??

I forgot who challenged me to this in the member challenge last season, but I think it would be a good technique in Florida.  Tie a plastic bait of your choice (I eventually found that I like Zoom Trick Worms the best) about 6-10 inches (quite a bit shorter that a traditional drop shot) above a fairly big weight, 1/2 - 1 oz.  It's great to pitch into holes in the grass along the edges.  I also experimented using jigs as the bottom weight.  Afterall, two baits are better than one .... right?? ;)

power drop shotting?

Verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry Interesting.  Maybe I'll give it a try.

As for the pix.  There was really nothing special to show.

But check out my "Next" thread in this forum.

It's classic avid photolla crappola.  8-)
