Things are Heating Up in Iowa

Featured Replies

Got away with my dad this weekend and caught alot of fish, with the 5 biggest going 6lb 10 oz, then 3-12, 3-10, 3-9, and 3-8.  The biggest fish was caught on a swampbaits swampbug which worked awesome.  The fish were picking it up and running with it 90% of the time.  Either way it was a great weekend and the fish are definetely full of eggs.  3 of my five best fish came o n swampbugs on a stand up jig and the other 2 on spinnerbaits.

Nice! How long was the 7+? Just curious. Those are some healthy looking Bass!

I wish she was 7+, she was a little light in the back.  But she was 23.5 inches, my dad said 24 but I only saw 23.5 although I was shaking pretty bad.

And these fish were very healthy, and still pre-spawn so they have big bellies to boot.

Great fish.  Things are really starting to go out here in the midwest.  The next 2-4 weeks should be really great. I hoping I can pick up a new PB.

Sodaksker,

I completely agree that the next 2 weeks are going to be awesome here as long as the weather doesnt drop 30 degrees or anything too drastic.  I dont think the fish were near spawning yet as most seemed to be in intermediate waters in about 4-6 feet of water at all of the ponds I went to.  The swampbug was awesome, definetely instilled some confidence in spinning tackle, that bait, and Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft which landed the big girl.

Listening to Fish Chris these fish are the same, same markings, I am not as skilled at pointing them out but I found out I caught the same fish anothe guy caught about a week later weighing 3 oz less.
