Peacock on a Jig

Featured Replies

I caught this Peacock on a jig with a trailer hook. He kept on short striking it so I put on thr trailer and on the second cast hooked up with him. I dropped it, in on a bed that he was sitting in and when he woould get close to it, I would rip it out and reel as fast as I could. He hit it while chasing it. I'm guessing he was about 2lbs.

Awesome fish. What part of Florida is that? I heard that the peacocks arent growing that big in Florida, have you seen bigger one's?

I live just southwest of Ft Lauderdale. I did see one that was pushing about 4lbs  :).

On a jig???  Man, I need to practice that...  Just starting to use jigs but I had no idea the Peacocks would go for them. Congrats, nice Peacock!

edbassmaster> We do have some decent size Peacocks down here, but nothing compared to the Amazon Peacocks...  I saw a 6# about 8 months ago in the C4 canal but the littler ones were all over my bait.  Average size I would say is 2-4# but they fight hard!!!  Check out the stats: http://www.peacockbassassociation.com/html/world_record_peacock_bass.html

Nice job.  On a jig! That never happens.  I had one hit like that on a culprit that I must have dropped on it's head 20 times.  That's sure bigger than that little dink peacock you showed us last time.  ;D

Al

i caught an 8 and a half pounder and the florida state record is 9.2lbs so they definately get bigger than 4lbs. I've actually heard of people catching them in the 10lb range its rare, but it happens.

I'm jealous!  I want so badly to catch a peacock!!  Look out Florida, I may make it down there later this year with two goals...see westpalmdude and kick his tale peacock fishing!
