Bass 'n Bluegrass

Featured Replies

Me and my girlfriend skipped school yesterday to go to the Graves Mountain Bluegrass Festival with my dad and brother. I wasn't really expecting to do any fishing so I brought and Ultralight and a small box of baits just in case we happened to find a stream or something.

It took us about 2hrs to get there from my house in Mechanicsville, but man was a I pumped when we finally got there. It turns out that the Rose River runs right by the stage, so we setup the chairs and my gf and me took off upriver to find somning e fish. After about 30min of fishing all I had caught was a little river chub and I was very discouraged as I was hoping to find some trout or even better some smallmouth. Well my wish came true as we found a hole that was about 10ft. deep and crystal clear. My first cast with a Berkley Power nymph resulted in a big chub and the catching went on for at least another hour. The final count was, me: 8 river chubs, 5 warmouths, 3 bream, 7 smallmouth bass, and 4 largemouth. gf: 3 chubs, 2 bream, 4 largemouth, and 2 smallmouth. I was very proud of Erin, my gf, for catching her first smallmouth. The fish weren't very big but heck, catching 10-14inch smallmouth on UL and 4lb line with my girlfriend while listening to guys like Ralph Stanley, IIIrd tyme out, and the Grascals play awesome bluegrass with beautiful mountain scenery all around. Does it get any better?!?!?!

I don't have the pics yet but I will post em when I get em.

Almost heaven on earth!  Love my Bluegrass too and especially Ralph Stanley.  Going to Grandfather's Mountain in NC later this month and our ears will be full of some beautiful music!
