Broken Rod :(

Featured Replies

So at Briery Creek on Sunday and I get hung up on this log jam with my senko. Instead of cutting the line I decide to reach down on my line and start pulling to see if I can pull whatever I'm stuck on up, or get the hook to snap off the line. I've been able to pull some heavy logs up with my Stren Series line. Anyway... I didn't realize that I'm standing in a decent pile of mud. As I'm leaning back and pulling I lose footing and start to fall back. Like an idiot I grab the tip of my pole which is not standing flat on the ground and fall back. Next thing you know I hear SNAP! And I look, fall on my butt and see a 1/4 of my rod snapped off laying beside me. I was so ticked. I had caught nearly 60 some odd bass on that d**n rod and it was my first bass pole I ever bought. Well, I reeled in my line and stored my reel in my tackle box for another day. Luckily I had just bought my new setup so I had a pole to finish out the day with. Go figure I didn't catch anything else. Anyway just thought I'd vent and share my story. My pole was a ML Shimano Scimitar 6'6". I will probably buy another one of these but with a faster action because the one I had was too d**n slow and the tip was very flexible (screwed up my hook sets). ::sigh:: So is life, huh fellas?

I hate it when that happens.  I lost my balance and sat down on a two week old All Star rod recently and broke it.

I replaced it with a Shimano Carbomax rod that was about half the price but is a much better rod anyway.  I think these are the best value in rods out there.

Dang man that sucks! A 6'6" M Shimano Scimitar was also one of my first baitcasting rods, I caught so many fish on that thing and I would still be using it but it got stolen at a pond I was fishing a while back >:(

Just to add one of my personal experiences...

Bought my first st croix last fall,an avid 7ft heavy. My first "High end"rod.Got snagged in a lilly pad stem.Handed my pole to my buddy while I went to pull the anchor out of the mud and move in to retrieve. While doing this behind my back he started wrenching straight up with the rod..(hes not the brightest bulb, but I love him) All I heard was POP!!! I don't understand!!?? I paid 179 bux for something like that to break?? Thats the price for the lightweight and super sensitivity in some of these rods.It aint no ugly stick LOL.Luckily I was able to send it back under warantee and havd it replaced after they determined that I didnt close it in my trunk or somethin dumb like that. I now have a new respect for my high dollar rods.

I fell your pain. Try busting 3 rods in a day. All after the day I got them... A buddy of mine convinced my to try some tica rods, he said for the price they couldnt be beat. I walked out of the store with 3 rods and as soon as I got home I rigged them up for the next days trip. On the first hookset on a small bass it snapped near the handle??? I chucked it in the rod locker and picked up the other. Them snap and so on...After the day was up I went to the tackle shop were he worked and told him the story. The owner refunded all 3 rods and asked if I wanted to replace them with more ticas..... I ended up putting all 3 rods $$ into a 2 kistler rods... I never before that day busted a rod and  havent since...

It happens young fella.

This may have been the first time,

but keep fishin' and

It won't be the last..........sorry.

My wife snapped her G-Loomis GL2 last weekend (her fault) I called Loomis they are sending a replacement for $50.00 no questions asked.

;D My buddy pigsticker on here had his All star EXPLODE when he got a snag with a jig. He was pulling it, no harder than he would fighting a fish and all I heard was BANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The line, and rod snapped, and the rod shot off and is now part of the C and O canal.  ;D

I snapped my first / favorite pole on my garage door.  I was backing my boat in the garage and had left it standing in a pole holder.  I heard it scraping as it started to bend then I stopped and looked in amazement at how far over it was bent and tried to decide what to do next... pop.  Too late.   :(

I think it was the subconscious bait monkey who wanted a new rod.

We always blame the bait monkey.  Poor guy lol.  On a serious note... I kinda agree with you.  I really like these bps tourney special rods now.  I will still more than likely pick up a shimano w/ a faster action but I may pick up another bass pro rod instead.  Still debating.  I wanna horse around with my new setup for a couple of weeks before I make my decision.

Funny.....I thought I busted mine yesterday after I got a lure stuck in the brush on the bank. I walked over with the line tight (stupid I know) and than got slapped in the face with a pricker bush and than fell. I thought for sure I busted my Avid. But she hung in there.

I feel your pain =(

As I was fishing off my kayak a few weeks ago when a 2lber dove under when i tried to lip it.  My BPS extreme snapped about 6inches from the top =( BPS gave me store credit though, but i'm out of a BCing setup til christmas, then I get to say hello to a new GLX =D

that really sucks. im glad i havent broken a rod...wait yes i have. i broke my ultra lite in the cargo box of my buddies fourwheeler. he had alot of stuff in there and it was silly to put my rod in there but i did and since its a ruff ride stuff jumps around in there and something landed on it and broke about 4" off the tip of it. i was luck it was only that much. i bought the rod specifically for putting in the fourwheeler because it was 2piece and my other one wasnt. it was a 12 dollar rod so i really didnt care. i just cut it off to the next guide and sanded it smooth. i still use it. thankfully i still have another ultralite rod besides that.

One day when I get a chance, I'm going to take a picture of the broke rods in the corner of my shop. You will crackup. I am death on

rods, I step on them, break them setting the hook, break em beating snakes, tear them up trying to get them untangle out of the rod box etc. No doubt I

keep the rod co. in business. ;D
