The kids first trip to the Farm

We left the house at 4 am, arrived at the StickMarsh ramp at 7.  Ran to the south end of the Farm where Josh proceeded to kill us with a spinner bait.  The wind picked up and we headed to the middle levy to hide in some calmer water.  About an hour later we headed back to the stumps in the south end and caught a few more.  Again the wind picked up so back we go to hide and for 3 hours we tried to leave.  The only problem was about every 15 min we would catch a fish.....

Totals  Josh - 8 mostly in the 2 lbs range and lost several big ones.

Taylor - 2 small guys and a lot of camera work

Dad -  6 mostly small with a DD that got off at the boat

Glad you had such a good time with your kids.  PRICELESS.    Was this your first trip and if so, was it difficult avoiding the stumps?

Did you say Stick Marsh?

Did you see Avid or StevenP?

Or George Welcome?

Great post.  So glad someone is out there catching something.  It is going down into the teens up here in Virginia so I am so glad you guys are doing well in Florida.

Bassn: It was my second trip to the Farm.  I hit one at idle working my way across the Marsh to the rim canal.  When we were on the south end of the farm and it is calm you can see the stumps (for the most part) but when the wind kicked up I could not stay off of them with the trolling motor so we moved back north.

Sam: I talked to Steve P friday night for some info and George PM'd me sat morning at 3 am.  He was out and I thought I saw his boat up close to the shore, but I am not familiar enough with those stumps(there are THOUSANDS of them) to make it close enough to say high.

Stick marsh can be tricky......sounds like you had a good day.

Too bad you lost those bigguns.......

That never happens to me....... :-[

I talked to a guy at Garcia today who had a fantastic day on the Farm yesterday. He had TEN fish over 5 pounds!!!! :o;) Largest was just under nine pounds. His totals numberwise were in the high 40's by himself. He told me the exact number, but i forgot.

This guy doesn't post on the web at all. He just flat out catches fish. He agrees with me that the bigger fish are further offshore. I fully trust his ramp reports. If there was ever a TX at Stickmarsh, this guy is who I would fear the most. I'm just glad he's on my side. 8-)

I believe it.  We saw several fish in the 8 to 10 lbs range landed around the heavier concentration of stumps SW of the end of the center canal.  One guy weighed an 8.5 #er about 50' away from us.  Thanks for the info Steve, we had a great time.  Josh was not a fan of the spinnerbait until yesterday, but he caught 7 out of 8 fish on one and the monster that broke off 50 braid still has his nija spin in his mouth.

Did you say "The only *problem* was about every 15 min we would catch a fish."!? Hell I'd love to catch a fish every 15mins right about now, you don't know how good you got it  >:(. Anyways nice fish, nothing like a good day of fishing  ;).

Sounds like a great day, Lee. Wish I were there. Everything here is frozen solid again. We had some open water last week for a couple of days, but it's all hard now.

Cheers,

GK

Hey, look for a package in the mail. I bet you thought I'd forgotten, and you'd be right. I did. My wife corrected my oversight, as she often does.

Happy to see someone teaching his kids the finer things in life. I can not wait to teach my 9 month old to fish.

Great pics, looks like you had a great time!

My first kid will be born in a few weeks, and I've already bought him his first rod and reel.  I can't wait until he's ready to use it!
