Topwater in February

Featured Replies

I decided to head out to a local pond today to try out my new LC Sammmy 100 that I bought at Dick's a few days ago. I didn't expect to catch anything, and left the camera at home.

Anyway, I got there at about 11:30 and started throwing the sammy. On about my 6th or 7th cast, a bass blew up on it. I was completely surprised, (the water was in the high 40's or low 50's) and even more surprised when I got a look at her. Her belly was full of eggs. I bet she went about 2.5 lbs, (I didn't bring the scale either)   a very good fish for this dink filled pond. About 45 minutes had passed and I had gone around the whole pond. I was back at were I started, still casting the sammy. All of the sudden, a huge bass blew up on the bait, with it's head coming all the way out of the water, but she missed it. I immedietly casted back to the same spot and she blew up on it again. This time I had her... for a minute. She jumped and shook her head violently, and the hooks came free. This was the second time I had encountered this fish, a 7 pounder that had been put in the pond last year. That fish always gets away from me. Oh well, get her next time.  ::)

No Pics? It's no big deal, at least you actually got to do some fishing. All our lakes up here are frozen solid ice :'(

Nice, top water is a blast. Especially in Feb.

what color did you get?

Ghost Minnow!

My favorite for LC baits.  8-)

You always do well when you leave your camera at home ;D, sometimes, and I am not kidding with you, I will leave my camera at home intentionally, and end up doing pretty well. You can call it a form of superstition, but what ever it is It brings me luck hah. Although this doesn't stop me from bringing my camera altogether, I only do it when I go a few days with no hook ups.

The camera is a device of bad luck I tell ya! :-/.
