Humbled today...

Featured Replies

...it was my first time fishing Gibbon Creek and I only hooked two bass in 6 hours. I lost both fish on white spinnerbaits after the initial hit with a few jumps. Both looked like they were over 14 and in the 14-24 slot so they were not keepers. I've been tearing them up on our private lake but Gibbon's is not a private lake LOL.

I spend the first 1/2 hour throwing into the trees with my Chart Buzzbait and Bandit Footloose. I stuck with the buzzbait for several hours and then switched over to the Footloose and later a jig.

I spent the next few hours catfishing and was skunked too, although a couple of kayakers had a nice stringer of channel cats at the boat ramp.

What did I learn? My trolling motor mount needs work, my new (used) 6hp Evinrude needs work, the tank bung is not correct for the hose, I hate spinning reels even for catfish, take more water, 6hp is not enough for my 14' Lowe, get on the lake earlier to beat the other 35+ boats on the lake at 7:00.

Although I was fishing the shallows all day my bass hit in an area with reeds, up against the bank with some shadows. However, there are not a lot of areas like this. Most folks seemed to be fishing the stumps with plastics, my least favorite method. The jig and trailer was not bad and may have been my best bet but I didn't work it enough.

I look forward to going back, possibly over Spring Break.

Had fun??? ABSOLUTELY!

I definitely see the difference between a low-pressure private lake like my own and a public, known for lunkers lake...it won't be easy catching fish.

It also give me more reason to practice plastics and jigs.

heavily pressured bodies of water can be depressing at times but keep at 'em.
