Top Water success

Featured Replies

I am pretty new to bass fishing I have really got into in the last month or so.  I have only caught bass on plastic worms before tonight :)

So last week I bought myself a SPRO bronzeye jr. b/c I wanted to see the excitement of a top water hit, and the lake I fish has a lot of lillies to cast into.

Well I caught 2 fish tonight around dusk on the Frog.  The first was in open water and got my heart racing with the hit.  The second bass was caught while I was dragging the frog through some lilly pads, he was about 2 lbs.  It was awesome and I can't wait to go out tomorrow morning and test my luck again.

Just wanted to share my excitement in successfully using a new bait.  Also I would like to try some new lures if anyone has any suggestions of lures that are good for a novice to test out I would be interested.  Srry no pics, they are on my cell phone.

You can easily send the pics to your e-mail and then save them to your computer and post them here.

But as for your lily pads, buy some frogs from brent... www.*.com great frogs he has!!!

Also try throwing a ragetail shad... Both of those baits are extremely awesome for me when fish lily pads and matted grass. ;)

I would also add the ragetail toads to the list, they work great.

A weightless pink or white trick worm, dragged over the pads, letting it rest and drop into the holes, and jerked through the open ater.

Use the tip of your rod and half turn of your reel to have the worm dart all around.  Great action and the bass will hit them.

It is great to see the bass come to the surface and inhale the worm.

Buzzbaits.  Lots of fun to fish.  Consider a trailer hook.

Mann's Minus One - Great topwater crankbait.

Poppers - Pop-Rs and the ones like them.

Zara Spooks - Oldie but goodie.

But I would suggest the pink or white trick worms. They are not expensive and a lot of fun to fish.  :)

If you go with a buzzbait I would use a Cavitron.  They come to top water qucikly and you can run them slower than the other buzzbaits.
