MY FIRST HUGE BASS!

Featured Replies

well today a friend and i went fishing off this dock and i casted out along the shore maybe 20 feet out and about 10 feet out i felt the hit it was a huge fish i started fighting it, and soon after reeled it in. The fish was 28 inches long and at least 4 pounds. well i pulled it outta the water and lipped it and i guess i didnt have a tight enough grip cuz he wiggled free and fell on the dock i dove after this fish and was army crawling on the dock i wasnt gonna let him go without a picture so i finally grasped him again and lipped him, i put my other hand under the belly for a little more control, after i thought he had calmed down i reached for my phone and asked my friend to take a picture but as soon as my hand got in my pocket he started fighting again and got free. So now i don't have a picture =/

but catching that fish was probably the best feeling in the world

Congrats to you on your first big bass.  Sorry to hear that he got away before you got a picture, at least you have the memory.

Unless that bass was very ill it would weigh closer to 11 lbs instead of four. A 28" bass is a very large fish. The Texas Parks and Wildlife length scale for slot lakes will have that fish at about 10.88 lbs.

What did you measure it with ?

There's no telling what that fish weighed. I have caught 9 double digit fish in my life and non were that long. My 12.41 was 26 3/4" long.

One thing for sure we will never know for certain. I think if in fact that fish was that long he was 9 or better even if he was very skinny. Good fish though.

Congratulations. Too bad you didn't get a picture, but you will always have the memory.

I caught a 20 inch bass the other day and it weighed 5.75 lbs, another 8 inches on there... I would think it would add atleast 4lbs. I don't know though. Good fish, good memory,  catch her again another day, and tighten up that dang grip! haha.

Go get him Sam,

Big O

Agreed! My pb was about the exact same size.It had approx. 21 girth.

Have caught 7.5 lbers that were around 24 inches long.

Besides the obvious fact that you need a scale, make sure you measure the fish girth.Use a flexible tape or cut a piece of fishing line and wrap around the fish at the fattest point.Measure the length with the mouth closed and the tail closed.

Using the length and girth you can get an approx. weight of the fish within a couple ounces.

Guaranteed that fish was over 9 or 10 lbs.Way to Go! 8-)
