i agree with a lot of others, but if money is short, check out fenwick's line of eagle gt rods. ive had a couple of them and they havn't let me down. not the most sensitive, but compared to other rods at that price point, they dont feel as "chunky" or cheap like comparable berkley and shakespeire counterparts.

where about elkhorn do you fish? i grew up fishing and wading the elkhorn! it really is fantastic place to fish for smallmouth. as far as lures, one of the best to use on the ol' horn is a 3" brown ad orange grub on a 1/16 or 1/8 oz jig head. cast close to strucure or cover, let it sink and reel slowly back. works everytime for me!if that dont work ill usually use a small tube jig like a strike king bitsy tube or gitzit, some sort of green color will usually do the trick. good luck!

dark water: rage craws finesse: 4in. tiki monkey. i dont know what it is but those little legs get a lot of attention!

oh ya. they love my 5 inch soft mattgills for some reason. the little ones tore its tail off! :'(

try some monsoor jigs from BPS. they dont have very thick skirts, but they are made with gammy hooks and latch on fine with a medium action rod. pretty cheap too.

so i work at a local gas station and noticed a truck pull in adorned with "early times fishing team" decals all over it. me being curious, i asked the guy what he fishes in. he says the bassmaster series and i said "oh, like amatuer class?" he said no the elite series. as he left the store i asked what his name was... it was kevin wirth! dang it, he left before i could get an autograph! ;D that was the first time i have ever met a pro. anybody else have any run ins like that before? it was pretty cool!

while fishing wacky stickworms, i like to use really small hooks(1/0 and under), like owner musquito hooks or gammy finesse hooks, so if a bass does inhale it, it doesnt take much to burry the hook home.

1/8 oz. gambler giggy head with either a 6" netbait t-mac worm, or 5" open water baits huzzie worm. internally wieghted gitzit tube or strike king bitsy tube is my next best thing. as far as colors is stick with black or some dark color. all fished on a 6'8" st croix mojo spinning rod with a flueger supreme reel with 6 lb. yo zuri hybrid US.

annoying bluegill-lil' pecker healthy bass-"stout" feeding bass-puttin on the feed bag fishing for catfish-"like watching paint dry" any big bass i call opus. dont know why. :-?

shoot, if all i had was fishing line i would be going after bigger game. use the line to make some snares. if it is high test, all the better! if it is viscous flouro, im screwed!

yeah those big turtles are nasty. saving a lure is not worth losing a finger or two. i would of cut my line pretty much right away. me and my bro-in-law were fishing off a dock one night at a lake using night crawlers and live bluegills for catfish and this one turtle kept tormenting us. we caught him like seven times on both baits. he was a good fight though, poor guy had hooks all in him by the end of the night. it was hilarious at times but got old. "i got a big one, get the net" only to pull up a turtle lol boy, turltes like me for some reason. if im not catching anthing else, i usually end up with one of those dinosuars. got one 30 lbs last year at a local golf course pond. the funny thing was i snagged him on a crappie jig on 6 lb. test IN THE MOUTH. had to get my baitcaster with 15 lb. test and hook em in the neck to get close enough to grab a hold of his tail. i kept this one though, couldnt carry the turtle and my gear so i tied my lanyard around his tail and drug him back to the truck. should have seen the golfers faces. they asked me if i was going to eat it, i told em no, im taking him for a walk ;D also was trot lining a local lake one night and caught a total of 9 of em in a 6 hour period. boy that was fun. we cleaned em up and served them at my local church fish fry. needless to say we had a lot of meat left over ;D another night me and my buddy were trot lining again. it was his turn to go and check the lines. he sets out, and thirtly minutes later i see him buzzing around in the cove going after somthing. he comes back with a smirk and pulls out the landing net with somthing furry in it. somhow he caught a jack rabbit swimming across the cove trying to get to the other side. i told him to be carful next time it might be a skunk

the extra length really helps with long hook sets imo. im happy with a 6 1/2-7 footer.

you would be better off with a st croix mojo or premier for a few more dollars. triumphs are not too bad, just a little lackluster.

im left handed but use strictly RH. im an oddball i guess.
