Top Water Action

Featured Replies

I went to a spot I fish fairly often today.  I started out with a spinner, then moved to a buzz and finally tried my spook.  Bass were breaking water everywhere around me, but I never got anything to hit at anything I had.  I went to the same spot two days ago and had 3 roll ups at my buzz with one being a successful hookup.  He was about 2lb but probably a little under.  Anyone got any suggestions or know what I could do in this situation?  I'm new to bass fishing, just started this summer.

Sometimes when they short strike on a buzzbait, you can speed up the retreive and they will take it.

Also when using a spook, try tying a trailer crappie jig on the spooks back hook with 10" of 10/12 lb fluro. Sometimes works wonders.

Main thing is to keep after them and keep learning.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice about the buzzbait.  I usually get a bunch of misses with it but today I didn't even get any to go at it at all

You could try putting a trailer hook on the buzzbait.  I also would use a Cavitron buzzbait if you are not using one.  I have had my best luck and caught my biggest bass on Cavitron buzzbaits.

You may also want to try throwing the Rage Tail toads or shads with a 5/0 EWG hook or a keel weighted 5/0 EWG hook.  I prefer using the Gamakatsu hooks.
