weird eel run

Featured Replies

yesterday i was fishing my secret spot with a jig and nose hooked ragetail chunk. the potomac flows into this spot so fish from the potomac can get in but there is no way for fish to get back into the potomac. right when i got down to the spot, i was about to fish the mouth of a tiny drainage creek when i saw something stirring up water, i thought it was a big bass and was about to cast but then i noticed it was a huge snake with an american eel hanging out of it's mouth. in that same spot i saw another snake and i walked around a little and saw a couple more snakes which i belive were feeding off eels. this is the first time I have seen an eel or snake in this spot. I wonder why this is happening now, I thought eels spawned in early spring then headed to the sargasso sea. I caught one bass on the jig.

There are a surprising number of eels in the Potomac. I've seen and caught them in the middle of D.C. several times.

I'd like to know a little more about them too.

you fish the middle of dc too?  where in d.c. do you fish?

anyways, today i went down to the spot and saw something slithering and splashing on the surface.  I beleive it was a snake eating an eel.

Hain's Point.  I just go with a friend of mine for catfish sometimes. I'm sure there are lots of other places tucked away in the city to fish. Usually I'm out on the bay or local reservoris though.
