Lox(south)

Featured Replies

I went out to Lox today for two hours to test out a prop, and while I was there I took a few casts. On my third cast, I caught a 10 lb mudfish that ruined my $8 crankbait. A couple of casts later, I got a 4 pounder on gold/black rapala, and a 3 pounder on a wat/red G tail worm. The fish were definatey biting today.

I was fishing the first bend - east of the boat ramp.

I went to loxahatchee this past thursday and caught ~10 frog fish early in the morning, throwing a watermelon seed horny toad along the canal that runs north, east of the flats. I've been there a few times but I have yet to catch a descent sized fish ... :( I have the hardest time understanding that place. Any pointers?

Right now, I would fish Holiday Park, Sawgrass, or the alley.

It is much easier, and it is red hot there right now.

All of the largest bass (4-6) that I have caught at Lox were caught on artificial worms. The largest fish I caught from there is 6 lbs using a red/wat trick worm. Red/pearl color worms, and black/blue, blk/char work good too.

I have used frogs, and had alot of hits, but not many hook ups.

Lox is very difficult at times to fish, especially when the water is high.

The bass become dispersed and move into the flats.

This constant change in water depth, open/closed spilways, cold fronts, wind, moon phases, etc. will keep you guessing.

When I fish there, I usually start out in the canals, pitching large assortment of top water plugs and crankbaits. I also like to fish the edges of the canals with the worms, casting parallel to the shore along the drop offs and fish them slowly.

If that isnt working, or I want to change up, I head into one of the cuts that will take you into the flats. In there I use mainly trick worms, flukes and a small floating gold/black rapala because the water is shallow.

Right now the hydrilla is starting to get thick and the water is receding a little bit. To get into the flats now, you have to buzz through the hydrilla quick or you might get stuck.

Bocabasser is one of the authorities on Lox, hopefully he can chime in.

Hope this helps.

I agree completely. Lox has always been a really tough place to fish for me. I either catch a lot or nothing at all.

I went to alligator alley this past week too but only caught a couple of dinky fish. Both caught pitching a watermelon seed trick worm on an 1/8oz spot remover. I don't know if you've noticed the amount of oscars/cyclids there are in alley right now. It's unbelievable. Bass must be getting pretty fat right now.
