6/6/09 Tournament

Featured Replies

We had a tournament this weekend on the St. Johns River out of Mullet Lake Park in Sanford/Osteen, FL. The river is fairly high right now from all the rain we have had in the past month. The river is up about 3 feet still and the stream velocity is around 1 foot per second. We decided to fish a small cut off of the river where water was flowing very fast because it was on the opposite side of a bend in the river. The canal is normally 3 to 4 feet deep with large marsh flats on each side. The fish were sitting in the brush in the marsh flats just out of the flowing water. We caught one keeper first thing in the morning that barely went 14". We continued fishing any opening in the marsh brush just outside the flowing water. We ended up landing 2 more keepers one 15" and one 16" then as soon as the sun poked out through the clouds the bite vanished and then the storms started rolling in. A pretty strong thunder storm was heading our way so we decided to head back to the ramp and wait it out under a pavilion. After about 20 minutes of waiting it out we decided to head back. We were only out for about another 30 minutes before the second wave of storms started rolling in. So we headed back to the ramp and waited it out for about 45 minutes before heading back out for about 20 minutes before weigh in. We ended up with about 5.5lbs and in 4th place out of 12 boats. First place had somewhere around 15.5lbs second 8.5lbs and third 5.83lbs. It ended up being a pretty good day.
