A day on the Lake with some Troy Trojans

Featured Replies

hey guys,

I'm a little slow on posting this cause of school but I had to tell yall about last weekend. My partner and I had been getting the itch to hit the lake for nearly two weeks. With school starting up we have had to put it on hold...until last weekend. One of our friends invited us to her lake near the Gump and we couldn't turn it down.

We load the whole crew up and head out, 5 guys 5 girls. We knew it was gonna be fun just not this much fun.

On the first cast, my partner catches a 6 lbers. We celebrate and have a freak out moment cause that was also his first spinnerbait fish. We then proceed to catch nearly 60 fish...almost all within 30 yards of the pier which was the only large piece of cover in the pond. Everyone was catching fish and having fun.

The owner got word of us catching em and he came out to see how things were going. I talk to him for awhile tell him about how great the pond is. He tells me that there was a bad die off 5 years ago and he didn't think the fishing was this good and hadn't fished it in awhile. He'll probably be doing more of it soon  ;) cause as I'm talking to him I slam into a pig. After a few minutes of running up and down the bank we finally get her in. She's without a doubt the largest fish I've ever caught. Around 8 lbs. and it came off of a finesse worm on a light weight carolina rig.  ;D We got a few pics and let her go. Sorry that I don't have them. My partner's gf has the pics and they are on facebook for anyone that is computer sabby. It was a great day where you could catch fish on any lure. We are definitely making another trip there real soon.

Thanks for listening

Wow! Amazing day, amazing water.

I follow bust and boom periods on ponds. They can winterkill and then have some amazing years...or...they go bust again. Sounds like the pond owner wasn't aware of that and you were first on it.

Nice, man. There is a Troy University billboard near my house. I find it funny because we're 1,000 + miles from you guys.

I had a similiar experience. me and my buddy were driving by a pond and we knew the people there went to our highschool. so we stop by and the owner is out there fishing with a orange trout spinner and were like hey mind if we fish here for while hes like suer not really any big ones in here. well we started throwing senkos and ended up catching nothing but 18-21" fish it was insane..you would have to believe it to see it. and sure enough i catch the second biggest smallie i ever have 22" it was a beast lol. we went back a few times caught em on frogs and spinnerbaits also...ahh good times back in highschool. but no 8lbers haha nice fish man.
