September 2nd

Started the day at sun up and headed for the roadbeds down on the farm. I first went to a stump in one of the ditches that usually holds fish. The second cast of the day landed a sweet 5lb 3oz taker. I then hit a dry spell for a while because of pouring rain. The spillway is open but of course water management is pumping in crap water as usual. The water is dirty, stinky and some dead shad floating around. The rain lasted quite a while so I went back to the ramp to get Steve p. when he got there. We finally got to go back out at 12:15. We get back to the roadbeds and within 15 minutes Stevep. pulls in a nice 3 1/2 pounder. Another little dry spell hit us so we decided to move to another ditch. We were fishing for about a half hour when Steve P. hooks up again. He lands the fatty that weighed in at 7lbs on the money. Finally I showed up and nailed a 3 pounder. We finally figured them out and proceeded to catch some good quality fish all between 3 to 5 pounds. The rain decided it wanted to dump some more water on us so we went back to the cut and fished the current that was made by the exit spillway in the back. We fished there for about 45 minutes and zeroed. Finally we get to go back to the farm before we were so rudely interrupted and it didn't take long before I hooked up to a 7lb 1oz beast. The rain came in again, this time with lightning, so we called it a day. We may have only fished a few hours but ended the day with twenty good solid, fat, healthy fish. The biggest were 7lb, 7lb 1oz,5lb 3oz, and 5lb 6oz. The fish were caught on crankbaits and worms. Larry Hauser
