  1. Gentlemen and Ladies, I haven't posted on the site in some time, but I check in everyday and read the forums and articles. I have learned to value your opinions and ideas on this sport that I love. I am still relatively new to bass fishing so I am still learning. My plan is to have designated rods and lines setup for specific techniques. I am thinking along these lines. I am thinking a 7' rod medium fast with 12-16lb flourocarbon (sufix brand) for finesse techniques. Worms, lizards, etc. Another rod is 7' with 55lb braid for lillypad jigging and frogging. Yet another 6'6" rod with 10-16lb. mono for every thing else i.e. spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and cranks, top waters, etc. Is this approach accurate? Am I on the right path or do i have it all backwards? I appreciate all your input and thank you for all for your posts that I enjoy reading daily. God Bless
  2. Thats a great story Matt. Good luck with the rest of your vacation.
  3. Geez, great fish!!!!!!!! I would do just about anything to catch fish like that. Ho Hum living in Ohio your lucky to get (1) 5 pounder a year.
  4. Dang! I wish I could see it. Half the pics on here don't show up on my pc, here at work. Can someone repost it so I could see it. The comments from you guys are too much. Thanks.
  5. Wow, Beautiful fish. Good job. I love fall fishing.
  6. Paul, I love your reports. I can see by reading your posts that I still have alot to learn when it comes to reading my Lowrance. I bought a 125X. I love it, I just don't always know what I'm seeing or looking for. your reports have helped me a great deal. Thanks and keep up the good reporting. On a side note I see your in Colorado. I'll be there visiting an uncle in Aurora the second week of September. He has promised to take me fishing while I'm there. He said the lakes and whole area there is just incredible. I can't wait to see it.
  7. Nice fish ,geez that lure is deep down there. I have never had a crank that deep.
  8. Good stuff Twitch
  9. Welcome aboard. 10 years bass fishing or not. You're guaranteed to learn alot on this great site.
  10. M and M, I can only hope too. I don't know how long that lake has been there. If it will even have a lunker or 2. The quality of the fish we were catching was surprisingly good. No dinks, no lunkers. Interesting anyway.
  11. My buddy found this small 5 acre lake, they are building a development around it. So while we still can we hit it Saturday morning. Overcast with off and on drizzle. We caught 21 LM in 6 hours. It was great. 1 dink, the rest were from 1 to 3 pounds. As luck would have it I did get one around 4 lbs. My buddy, after the pic was taken closed the phone with out saving it. GRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!! Interesting fishing though. we were using Senko worms, Black with silver flake. Went through 8 of them. They would only hit on the initial drop. If you jerked the bait and let fall again they wouldn't touch it. You might as well just reel it in and recast. Cast, let drop, watch your line, reel slack, feel weight, WHAM set hook. Great times. Going again tonight. Here are some pics.

  13. Thanks for all the kind words guys. He called me last night wondering when we can go again, and can we go to the same place. Now if I can just get him to go in on a nice, big bass boat. ;D ;D ;D
  14. Here's the story, I have been trying to get my brother to LMB fish with me for some time. I bought him his first 2 rods and a bunch of tackle for christmas. He has never ever had the ptience to fish. I told him how great bass fishing was over and over. How not catching anything most of the day and then hitting a 5 pounder was still one of the great thrills of life. So the first 3 times out in my boat he didn't catch anything. He tells me that if it wasn't for the boat he would never do this. Well that all changed on saturday. After about 1.5 hours. He hooked into his 1st LMB. He was just dragging a lizard across some moss and lillypads and bam he said it hit like he was mad at it. Well he's hooked now. He went on to catch 3 more in about a 2 hour period doing the same thing and he loved it. He said that all that time of not catching anything. 3 trips worth. He said that single hit was worth it. Here he is with his first catch. It's not big, but it didn't matter to him. More importantly I have a new fishing partner, and it's my brother. Doesn't get much better than that.
  15. To be honest there are times when I like to fish alone. Other times I would rather have a buddy or my brother with me on the boat. I guess if I had to choose I would rather have a buddy there. IMO when your both on the fish it seems more fun. I do understand wanting to fish alone at times. I just wouldnt lose a friend over it.
  16. The fish was probably foul hooked in the butt. Sorry man, absolutely NO WAY this fish was foul hooked. It was in his butt hole heading out. Unless he mysteriously sat on it then did a little shimmy to get around the barb. There is absolutely no way for a foul hook there.
  17. True story here. I once caught a bass and as I'm taking the hook out, I happened to notice something protruding from its, well, butt. It was a hook. The long part where the eye would be was sticking out if its butt. The eye had rusted away. I gently removed what was left of the hook. Yes, it was still curved, the sharp point and barb were gone. I'm not sure how long it would have taken for it to completely come loose. I had to rotate it around to get it out. I thought to myself with a chuckle, man that fish must have been so happy I took that hook out. Must of been like aaaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! Finally. Thanks so much. It swam away much happier I presume.
  18. What lake are you fishing? Boat or shore?
  19. 1200!!!!!!!!!!!! My wife just gave me 50 bucks to hit Gander mountain and I thought I was doing good. Sheesh!!
  20. My line its the water half hour before sunrise.
  21. Thanks alot for your response. I am stopping at gander mountain this afternoon anyway. I'm gonna have to get some of what you were talking about. I do have most of that stuff. Another frog or 2 and some rage tails couldn't hurt. Like most of you folks I have a bit of an addiction to tackle. Thanks again
  22. Hey folks, I havent posted in some time but I check in with this site daily, its awesome. I'm trying a new lake tomorrow near Mogadore Res. in Ohio. It is a lake next to the res. seperated by a road. It is packed with grass and lillypads. Not sure of the acreage. I do know it doesnt reach 10 feet deep at its deepest point. I have been pretty disgruntled with my fishing results this year. I'm going out by myself and would just appreciate a few pointers and some ideas on what to try. I am running out of ideas and really don't trust my own judgement anymore. I read posts of people catching 10 or 20 bass in a day. It proves to me that I don't seem to know what I'm doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Weather is gonna be scattered T-storms low 80's, 10-20 mph winds. Thanks so much.
  23. Geez, a woman that loves to bass fish. How great is that. Do you have any sisters? j/k ;D ;D ;D
  24. My first bass tournament I'm all excited. They shout go I move to some close weeds and send my brand new sexy shad crankbait along their edge. Boom!!!! A gun shot goes off, then I realize as did the 5 other boats around me that I didn't open the bail on my rod. Shad goes about 40 yards and promptly sinks to the bottom. One voice in the back somewhere yells there goes a new lure. DOH!!!!!
