Huge Northern Snakehead. Out of the Mattawomen Creek off the Potomac River. 26 inches and I would guess about 9 pounds or so. Flipping a beaver in the pads. Light pick up and them it came bursting out of the pads and into the air after the hook set. One of the best flipping catches ever for me. Lots of fun. Was going to take it home and eat it. Didn't though, disemboweled it and kept fishing.

It doesn't do it justice. Half is still in the water. The braid was cutting my non camera hand. Beautiful markings in person.

It does look like a pretty fish, but man are they nasty!!  One down...who knows how many to go.

That's awesome Dave. I went on a guided trip with Capt. Mike in Mattawoman this summer and I had a snakehead follow my bait and slap at it but he wouldn't bite. They are definitely on my "want-to-catch" list.

What are the bass doing this time of year back there?

nice little SH, I've been tearing them up on buzzbaits, 4-5 a day

I bet that beast put up a fight.I haven't caught one ,but i hope i do soon.

Correct me if I am wrong but didnt BPS or someone have a bounty on those things? If you caught one and took care of it they gave you a BPS gift card or something? Are they still doing that?
