i was fishing a small panther martin spinner when a bass hit it. it pulled half my rod into the water , bent 1 of the guides, and bent on of the hooks perfectly strait. he got off i never even got to see him.

have any of you ever had that hapen?

Not with bass, but with larger species, such as steelhead and northern.

Make sure you have the drag set correctly, and a fish will never straighten a hook again :-)

How do you know it was a bass if you never got to see it?

Yes.  Fly rod and small bream bug.  Fish just kept moving and straightened the hook right out. That was 40 years ago. I can still see the strike and the line moving to the left of the boat and the rod tip going into the water. I was just a kid and did not know what to do.  It was a thrill and a half.

Wondered what it was, couldnt be a bass.

That is a 3/0 Owner St-41 and a 150lb split ring. Use the frog for a size comparison.

THAT was a bad day. She did that to me right at the boat, then I had to dodge a 10" missile flying back at me, lol.
