Percentage of Payout??

Featured Replies

New to bassresource... and new to running tournaments in general.  I live in Lincoln, Nebraska and i fish on the collegiate bass fishing team here at the University of Nebraska Lincoln.  We are hosting a benefit tournament for our club (GO Huskers!) to cover travel expenses for the upcoming tournament season.

This is my question.  What percentage of the entry fee would you recommend going to the payout? I want to make money for the club but at the same time i want to attract some of the more serious "bass guys" with a good payout.  I was thinking a $50 entry fee and having 60% of that go to payout.  There would also be a $5 big bass option.

One other thing to keep in mind... this is SE Nebraska and we willl be hosting the tournament on a 200 acre lake.  We are expecting 10-15 boats.

thanks for your suggestions.

You might want to do 70% payback, that seems to be the norm for most tournaments.  Another thing you can have is hot dogs and drinks for after the tournament, might get you a few more bucks.

My club charges $60 per boat entry fee.  $10 off the top for Big Fish.

The payout is 40% to 1st, 30% to the club, 20% to 2nd, 10% to 3rd.

My cousin's club does an 80% payout for their open tournaments and they have great turnout and still make a lot of money for their club.

Drew,

First and foremost: GO BIG RED!!

Please PM me and let me know if there is an opening for a few of us from Omaha as several of us would love to participate and help out fellow Huskers.
