March Lake Fork Trip (Pics)

Featured Replies

My fishing bud & I just got back from our annual Lake Fork Trip earlier this week & I thought I would share.

First day was Sunday the 28th & it was kind of rough. The day before was 78-80 degrees with a slight breeze out of the west, but that night a cold front moved in & dropped the temps down quite a bit. The highest it got Sunday was maybe 62 & it was super windy out of the north. We managed to boat 7 bass with the largest being right at 4lbs.

Day 2 was completely different. Blue bird skies & not a ripple on the water. We boated 10 bass that day with my bud catching the largest which went for 6lbs 4oz (didn't send a pic of that one). Huge mouth, real long, & post spawn. Here is a 3 1/2lbs that I caught that day.

Day three, the last day, was super super windy out of the south but the warmest of the three days & we finally put together a solid pattern. Swimbaits fished on the hard bottoms of spawning flats. That was what finally produced the nicer ones.

I caught the first one which went for 5lbs 10oz.

My bud caught the 2nd & 3rd which went for 5lbs 6oz

& 7lbs 8oz (big bass of the trip)

I caught the last one of the morning which went for 6lbs 3oz.

That last day really saved the trip for us. With the conditions changing every day I should be much happier but I was really hoping to break into the DD club. Oh well next time right :)

In the end we ended up with three that went for 4lbs, a 5lbs 6oz, a 5lbs 10oz, a 6lbs 3oz, a 6lbs 4oz, & a 7lbs 8oz. Everything else was at least over 2lbs.

that looks fun nevertheless. I would take a 6 pounder anyday. They are just beautiful fish, as are yours

Looks like you had a great trip, nice looking bass!

Absolutely.  The femals in the northern end of the lake are already in full swing.  We didn't really get a chance to do any sight fishing while we were there because the water in the northern end was so muddy.  The main lake was still pretty clear but the majority of the big bass were still staging.  Actually all the bass we caught were in 6'-8' of water actively feeding.  You should be hitting it at just the right time.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate with you.  Good luck.
