A new lake for us..

Featured Replies

Matt and I decided to make it a point to branch out and try a few different spots this year. This week our daughter had a school field trip which gave us a little time to go fishing since she was going to be back much later in the day. We decided to head out and try a new lake.

As soon as we arrived and started to launch the boat I noticed beds all along the shoreline. There was a variety of fish on the beds too. Bass, crappie and sunfish. I could not wait to get started fishing and the first thing I ended up doing was hooking myself in the arm while I was trying to launch the boat. >:( I was hoping that this was a not a prelude of more mishaps to come.

First thng I noticed at this place was the wind.. It was windy and in my little boat it was kinda like being on a sailboat so we learned to just go with the flow. ;D

Was not long after we got there and Matt had his first fish for the day..

As usually I was strugglin to keep up with him but was lucky enough to catch one for myself not far from the spot that he caught his first. ;D

We then headed to the back side of the lake and I bet this side of the lake is gonna be a blast fishing topwater in the summer because of the large weedbeds and lilly pads. Can't wait to go back there again. We picked up a few here too.

We then went around to the opposite side of the lake. There was quite a bit more timber on this side of the lake and I love to fish submerged logs and such so I was lookin forward to this spot. Sure enough this is where matt and I got our biggest fish for the day in back to back casts. It was a blast!

All in all it turned out to be a nice day on a new lake. I cannot wait to go back again and explore this place a little more when we have some more time to spare.

Caught all of my fish on the smokin rooster and a split shot. I think Matt caught most of his on a smokin rooster to but on the keel weighted moaner hooks. I think he also had one on the Rage shad too.
