Soft Swimbaits

Featured Replies

Swimbaits has been around for a long time, recently a hot bait.  I never got lured into the hype when it was introduced the new hot lure.  Now, I'm thinking about giving it a try to see what all the fuss is about, but since I'm here in Wisconsin and the chances of me landing a double digit bass is fairly slim, so I'm think about going with the hollow body lures such as this one:

Anybody had any success with these types of swimbaits?

I've had great success with BassMagic soft plastic swimbaits which are pretty much the same thing.  I either use a very slow steady retrieve or a twitch and pause retrieve.  Long pauses often result in strikes, its a great bait for dead-sticking.

Yep. I live in Ohio so not a lot of DD bass around here either, but I did catch a lot of 3-5 lbers this year on multiple hollow belly swimbaits, but my most productive might have been the berkley ones that you linked to.

I prefer the Bass Magic ones over the Berkley. They're cheaper, IMHO have better action, and caught me more fish. Plus the new boxes come with a couple great swim bait hooks.

Bass Magic, or Strike King Shadalicious, which is the exact same bait.

Caught many large bass and a few bonus pike and musky.

4.5" works great up here in northern Ill., southern Wisc.

Try this. I just ordered several packs.

P.S. Don't like the Berkley either. $$$$

And always boil bait for a few seconds. Softens them up and gets rid of the smell.

I have been using them for a couple years now and find the 4.5" Shadolicious and the 5" Monney minnow to be the most productive.  I use a 6/0 EWG hook with 1/4 oz of lead most of the time.  I do not like the hooks with the spring on them as they seem to rip out of the bait with each strike.

I like fishing these baits on a slow steady retrieve, they will go through an amazing amount of weeds and cover and draw strikes.  You do not get a big explosion out of a Bass when they hit these lures.  In open water the rod loads up like a weed is on the line or you will see the line just start to move in a different direction.

There are a lot of ways to fish these soft swimbaits, but the most productive has been a slow steady retrieve in the depth or zone you want to work.

i would get a mattlures baby bass or two they work good here in MN, also something most people dont use try the saltwater powerbait swimshads they work really good for all species including bass

what hooks do you guys use  send me a link if possible
