Cold water and hot action....

Featured Replies

I have had a couple of really good outings the past three days. Much to my suprise too.....I've never fished this late in the season in previous years assuming that the fish had always moved to deep water that I couldn't reach from the bank. Well I wish I had given it a try before this year.

I had been catching good numbers the last few weeks on shallow cranks and spinnerbaits in most of the small lakes that I fish, but with this last cold spell the fish all but stopped hitting these faster moving baits....so on Sunday I decided to just throw a jerkbait the majority of the day. I only managed to land one and hook up on another, but it was still worth braving the cold and the wind.

Air temps maxed out in the mid 40's with a stiff south breeze and I'm guessing water temps were in the LOW 40's based on our last weeks weather.

Well I went back out today for a while as a strong cold front was rolling in. When I got the the fishing hole air temps were around 52.....by the time I left a couple of hours later the temp was 39. I caught three really nice ones dragging a jig and one smaller fish on an x-rap. The action has definitely slowed with this cold water and I've realized I'm only fishing for a handful of bites each time out now, but man when you do get bit it's worth braving the cold.

Now hopefully the ice will hold off for a couple of more weeks so I can get a few more like these in!!

Fig, gimmie back my pets. I told you not to take them out of the tanks and out side.. they could get fleas.

Nice work

Nice fish and photos Bryce... Fall is the "OTHER" best time of the year for me and looks like it will be productive for you as well  ;)
