First Fish of the New Year

Featured Replies

My friend Danny and I caught our first few fish of 2011 yesterday.  We caught all of our fish except for one on green pumpkin/black jigs with ragetail dirty craw trailers.  I caught one on a t-rigged watermelon red thumper.  It was a tough bite, we fished almost all day and only caught 4 bass each.  I tried fishing a lot of other baits yesterday, but the jig 'n craw was the only thing they really wanted.  We got bit working it SLOW through laydowns with long pauses between movements.

Congrats and nice fish!  What's your water temp down there?

Nice bass! Water temp in central texas is about 50-56 depending on the day on non power-plant lakes. Now the power-plant lakes i would bet are anywhere from 60- maybe ( and thats a BIG maybe) even 70 if your in the main discharge and it hasent been super cold the last few days.

Water temps in northeast Texas have been hovering around 50 lately, but it's snowing today. Highs are in the 30s for the next few days and the water temps are going to drop significantly.

A bit cold for you guys I guess but it sounds pretty good to me! I've caught a few down to 40deg water temp and one at 39deg, but I haven't got anything when the water is colder than 39deg (I think I have to learn to just stay home when the water temp is below 40)... :-?

Well, I hope your cold front goes through fast and the water temps head back up!

great etb!  looks like you're gettin' the year started off right.

Nice catch, but those pics are making me shiver seeing how you guys are dressed.

Sounded like fun ETB and glad y'all got out on the water
