What Lure Caught Your Biggest Bass In 2014 ?
I didn't get to fish much in 2014 due to my wife's battle with breast cancer, but I hope to pull in some hawgs this year. All the bass over 10 lbs that I've caught have been landed using the Mann's 9" Jelly Worm (blackberry) and the Gene Larew 6" Hoo Daddy. There are many good baits out there that yield hawgs, but these two are my go-to baits.

What Hooks Do You Use?
I used Gamakatsu for years and still do for some baits. I'm mainly using Owner now...sharpest hooks on the market IMO and definitely worth the money. Unless they already come rigged with them, suck as Megabass, I'll replace the trebles on my cranks with Owner.

Abec 7 Bearings Upgrade
I replaced the bearings in my Calais reels with Boca Orange Seal three years ago...made a noticeable difference in smoothness and casting distance.

You never know when you'll come across an old fart like me with an Owner 5/0 stuck to the back of my favorite fishin pants.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Just acquired...Rapala Husky 13 from the late 70's. 5 1/4", 3/8 oz, runs 4'-8'. The Husky pre-dated the Husky Jerk and was popular among northern anglers and anglers in Europe. Those who have used this lure will tell you it worked great on bass in the early spring.

It's Offical
It's a girl and everyone is fine. As soon as she is old enough, Grandpa is going to teach how to T-rig a Jellyworm, tie a skirt on a jig, disassemble and reassemble a bait caster, and how to paddle a kayak...you know...all the important stuff. Oh yeah, I'll also teach her how to raid the cookie jar.

Rapala Scatter Rap Crank
I like the action of these lures. I'm hoping LC and Megabass can come up with similar cranks without violating Rapala's patent.

Pre-Rap Storm Thin Fins
I've got many Thin Fins, both in shad and minnow models, still sealed in the boxes from the factory in Tulsa. (Pre VMC) They made them in sinking and floating models. I could be wrong, but I've never seen one with rattles that came from that factory.

Which Is The Best Terminal Tackle Plano Box?
Plano 3640. I like the design of the lid... when closed it prevents items from getting into other compartments, no matter how it's carried.

A Few Baits
I'll take the one on the left...oh heck...I'll take all of them. Nice job.

Lucky Craft Silent Pointer Color

Post Vmc Rapala Original Minnow
I hope not. I've collected these for years and there are differences in paint, patterns, and boxing. Hopefully they will do their homework. On a good note...at least we know the fish isn't going to pull the hook hanger out of the wood.

Post Vmc Rapala Original Minnow
Sitting in the man cave this afternoon, counting the days until pre spawn, I picked up my Dremel tool and decided to settle a debate among some Rapala collectors. For many years, the Original Floating Minnow was known for it's thru-wire construction, a very labor intensive process when hand working balsa lures. It was rumored, especially among some collectors, that VMC stopped using thru-wire construction after they acquired the company from the Rapala family in 2001. I selected a lure (Model F9) manufactured in 2012 and compared its weight against two other F9 lures, one made in the 60s and another made in 1972. Result, all three weighed 5g. (3/16 oz) How could VMC achieve this if they were not still using thru wire construction? After I turned the Dremel off and laid open the body sections near the hook hangers, the verdict was clear...we are still getting the same Original Floater. (See pics) Note: I did not pay retail for this lure and the knowledge gained from its sacrifice is going to make some collectors I know happy. Is it spring yet??
