Bassin101 Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 OK Guys, In Mesa, AZ for the past week it has been overcast, partly cloudy and sometimes rainy with highs in the upper 50's. This Thur, Fri, Sat, Sun it should be in the high 60's to low 70's. Solunar calander says its a good weekend to fish too. If you were here how would you plan your day on the lake? Water level low, temp unknown, clear to stained. Bright sunny days forcast. Quote
Nick Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 Need more info. Water color, topography, food sources, and water temperatures are extremely important variables. Please add to your question. Thanks So far. I would bring some sunblock and bask in the sun! Quote
Bassin101 Posted December 6, 2004 Author Posted December 6, 2004 Nick The water is greenish but fairly clear to 2 to 3 ft. It is a 36 acre lake with a max depth of 8' with very little cover or structure. The food I have seen near the shoreline is mostly 1 to 3 inch minnows. Have had luck with 3 to 5 inch grubs and dropshotting Robo Worms. Chris gave me enough tips on jerkbaits that I caught a few on one last week. Looking for stratagies. Ric Quote
Nick Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 I would cheat a little. If you fish from a boat, make some structure with brush piles, rock piles, or whatever you can manage. Place some shallow and some deeper especially if you have any quick sloping shallow to deep transitions. If there is very little cover in there, you'll have plenty of bass taking up residency. Otherwise, fish early and late, fish the windy side shorelines with spinnerbaits. You should see more bait there. If it's not windy, become a Senko angler. They are pretty amazing baits. Let them sink all the way to the bottom and move them painfully, slowly along. Good luck. Quote
Bassin101 Posted December 9, 2004 Author Posted December 9, 2004 Nick, You read my mind. I talked about the lack of cover and structure in the lake with my 15yr old Boy Scout son. He worked on a fish habitat project a year ago with AZ Game and Fish. So he is going to do one in our lake for an Eagle Project. Cover for bluegill, crappie and other minnows should attract the largemouth. Sould be done by May. Quote
clooney Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 Do you have any idea what the water temp. is at your lake ? That could change things ! Quote
Bassin101 Posted December 10, 2004 Author Posted December 10, 2004 My guess is high 50's to low 60's. Weekend forcast is now 77 both days, so it may warm up shallow on the NW shoreline Quote
