DO BASS EAT CATFISH

Featured Replies

I know bass eat shad , crawdads , panfish, but what about small catfish and carp? Just trying to get ideas for a larger swimbait. Thanks

Yes they do, a bass will eat anything, from mosquito larvae, water fleas to any kind of animal small enough to fit into it 's mouth, which include other fish, mammals like rats and mice, and ducklings. Larger catfish most probably are not eaten on a regular basis, after all those spines don 't make them very "edible" but smaller catfish is another story.

Raul is correct, I have seen It myself ,I fish at a friend's farm pond now and then and happend to look down ,there were three 6" bass coraling mass of 1" black bullhead catfish, it cool watching them pick'um off one at a time

Yep, check out a bait called the Madtom by Case plastics, you'll thank me later!

Yep, Earthworm has it right. In the river here we have what is called a Stone Cat. It's a small catfish that grows to about three inches long and has blue eyes. The bass, especially the bigger bass love them. Case Plastics makes a good imitation called the Mad Tom.

L.D.

I have seen blue gills eat small catfish too along with bass.

Thanks earthworm and L.D. I looked at those baits made by Case and they are great! Thats just what I was thinking about using during spawn. Look out Bass here I come.

Is there a website for Case baits? ???  I tried searching earlier today and couldn't find one.

This is the one I found .http://www.madtoms.com/baits.htm

Thanks.  Are these things good in just rivers and streams or are they successful in lakes?  I didn't notice any tackle dealers in TX.  I wonder if they'd be effective down here?  Definitely something different.  I've never seen them before.
