RMiller02 Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 I regularly go to a pond in my hometown that is about 4 acres or so big. In the summer and spring the water is a little more stained and I can tear it up with some trick worms and spinnerbaits. But in the winter time the water gets very clear and I have had a pretty severe drought. I have tried some deep crankbaits and some Texas-Rigged Worms and Lizards of all colors but if you get close to the bottom your lure gets covered in algae. What would you try in this situation??? Any responses can help. Thanks! Quote
Chris Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 Try a drop shot or use a belly weight instead of a worm weight the bait will not dig into the algae as much. Also a soft jerkbait might be the ticket or weightless senko. Quote
DamageInc Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 I'd try a suspending jerk bait such as a Rapala Huskey Jerk or if you know the depth of the algea use a suspending crankbait accordingly. You could also flyline or carolia rig your plastics Quote
Pond-Pro Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 Try a drop shot rig. This will keep your bait above the bottom. It will also help you keep the bait in the Strike zone longer. Quote
