I would like to ask the experts aorund here how to approach muddy water. In our area there are lots of dams with muddy water. What will your appraoch be?  

Our dam levels are also very low due to low rainfall. What is the effect of this on bass?  ???

Personally, when I fish muddy situations here on the river, I do a couple of things. You got to help them find the bait so they can strike at it. I will up size my baits. Normally I use a 3" tube, go up to a 3 1/2" to 4" and use black, or a dark color.

Next I would slow roll a spinner bait with a pair of colorado blades on it in black or white.

Normally I don't use scent, but it can't hurt in muddy water.

Last use a big crank bait with BB's in it, again with contrast colors

Sound is the key in muddy water. Try anything that vibrates. Spinnerbaits with a colorado blade works great. Jigs with rattles, cranks with BB's. You can even try the rattle tubes you put inside plastic baits

Spinnerbaits are the way to go, I also agree with tritonman

Stright up tubes and jigs right by the dam, since the dam is so shallow the current has pretty much slowed down and there is alot of brush found near the dam.....thats how I do in my local reservoir and with that I caught 3 five pounders in three hours and many othe nice ones...good luck

Thats a great point about sound. The thing to remember in muddy conditions is first and fromost patience. In addition to this we need to remember that bass have an amazing sense of sight and smell. Therefor the best bet is to find a lure that will apeal to as many of the senses as possible. For more infromation there is a great article on the site here. I think its called and the spring rains came or something like that. It has to do with changing conditions.
