how come on espn they recommended using 65lb test for bass fishing? then the next guy recommends 40lb test..but then other people say use 8lb..which is it? ; ???

It really all comes down to personal preference.  Use what works for you.

It depends where and what technique you are fishing.

If I am flipping jigs I use 50 lb test PowerPro.

With Crankbaits around wood, I use 14 lb test Shakespeare Supreme.

With Drop-Shot rigs I will use 8 lb or 10 lb test Cajun.

So as you can see, the strength rating and type of line will vary with each technique.

    When they are talking about the 60lbs. test line it is the braided line that has diameter of the lighter line.

I prefer using the lightest line I can get by with(caught the 12 and 3 10's on 10lb.test),but when you break off a giant bass(lost a giant saturday)you tend to scrap that.I'm now using 15 lb. Berklry Big Game.
