Wnna know if any one else tried this

Featured Replies

Hey I posted this about a trip today and I had some sucess with one of my own ideas thats rare! I would like to knhow if any one else has tried this because I caught 4 bass in an hour they were all between l2 and l4 inches no biggies but for me thats great.

I put an octupus hook on like the ones you drop shoot with, I got them in a pack of wild eye finesse minnows and I wacky rigged a 2 1/2 inch green sluggo and I caught fish on it We were texas rigging 6 inch worms with no weights with sucess and then when that turned cold I took a shot and it worked Anyone ever done this before and how diyou do?

Hey muddy man...

Sounds like you stumbled upon a good idea.  Can't say that I've ever even heard of a green sluggo myself, but hey, if it catches fish...stick with it.  Just because things are always done so similarly in the bassin' world...doesn't mean that you can't veer from the norm and still catch fish.  I am reminded of this when I fish with my 14 year old and he'll do something totally out of whack, like a wacky rig when I tell him he needs a t-rig with weight, and then he'll throw on some no-name unpopular color of the wrong size and present it all wrong, and come up with more fish than me...the "educated" one.

I'm glad that your little idea worked.  Don't ever be afraid to go against what you have been taught...especially by pros on TV throwing the same stuff constantly.  Green Pumpkin, Junebug, Watermelon.  Go for something wild.  Hell I catch more bass on my hometown lake with my favorite little fire and ice culprit worms than I do with any other big name baits that everyone swears by.  Happy Fishing!

I was fishing under a bridge one time and I found a deep spot that the bass where stacked up and I caught fish using that smaller slug-go in a funky fish color texas rigged. Well when the bite slowed down I rigged it whacky style and caught even more fish. I ended up out fishing the guy I was with and he about flipped when he figured out how I was fishing and how well it was working. We didn't catch anything big but it was fun.

Is an octopus hook the same as a treble? I'm not familar with an octopus hook.

I 've done something similar my friend but not with a slugo, how can I say it ?, it didn 't feel right, slugos aren 't that flexible so at first the whacky rig with a slugo just didn 't sound right so I used a 3 inch senko instead.

Hey thanks fellas Raul I have learned more from you about bass fishin than 2 years of In Fisherman Subscriptions this time I have to humbly say what difference did it make I caught 4 in one hour on a pack of plastics that cost me 89 CENTS not 5 a pop so my philosophy here is I DONT THINK THE FISH CARED HOW MUCH I SPENT AND I DONT SEE IN THIS INSTANCE WHAT FLEXABILITY WOULD HAVE TO DO WITH IT THEY TOOK WHAT i THREW

An Octopus hook is a round, open face hook.

They are marked Octopus on the hook information on the container.

I first started using them when fishing for catfish.

They allow for a simpler and easier removal of the hook plus the fish hooks themselves when they take off with the bait.

Look for them in your favorite tackle shop.
