Fall Fishing

Featured Replies

Summer is coming to and end and Fall is coming soon. It's been getting cooler and the water has been going down in temperature. I did good fishing this Summer and was wondering what the fish tend to do when Fall comes. The lake I fish have every type of structure and thing a Bass would like that I can think of. What are some good Fall baits that I should try and what areas are best? I'm fishing a lake in California.

Thanks

Mainlake points and the backs of coves are really good places to fish during fall, follow the baitfish. Some really good baits are a white jerkbait, any crankbait that looks like a shad ( or possibly a trout in California ) and white buzzbaits.

Hope this helps.

FAll is ALMOST like spring again. Instead of feeding for the spawn, the bass will be bulking up for winter. Alot of the same general rules will apply. Points with access to deep water, creeks and coves can all produce now.

I will say one thing about fall. Even though the fish feed heavily, the abundance of baitfish and the prolific amount of food seems to make it quite a bit tougher to catch fish.

Try to do something subtly different than what is going on where you fish. For example, if the bass are busting shad, try to figure out the size of the bait and up or downsize your presentation based on what the bass want (they will tell you)

Just a slight difference in size will help your bait stand out against the rest, but also, try using various retrieves until the fish tell you what they like.
