Hi, iam a new member. Not verygood with a the forums and topics yet. (first day on)!!  I searched through all the topics and did not see this. The topic with question is when your favorite lake is down to winter pool and your looking for new cover (stumps for me) in this case what stump beds should you key in on to mark on your map to come back and fish at summer pool levels?  It is very overwelming, stumps everywhere! should you mark the ones at the magic 8 foot mark, or near channel, or flats covered on shallows near points??????

I would try to mark all you can on your map and write a small description by the mark... sooner or later you'll have a day where the stumps on a point or around a bend in the creek channel don't produce. In those cases there may be some other subtle characteristic you can identify that are key. Other things I would be looking for if I were you, along with stumps and cover, are small ditches, secondary points, humps, saddles, etc. Many times a lake with stumps everywhere will give up a more patternable catch to those elements of structure and usually you can find those elements with stumps or brush on or around them. (lake fork and cooper lake come to mind here)

The only thing I can add is that you need to also pay attention to the size of the stumps sometimes the larger ones will hold better fish and LOCATION CAN BE EVERYTHING

My lake is down 16ft  now for winter draw down---I'm going to go and GPS all the spots also I'll take my camera and take pictures of each spot then write a description down about it  ---useing the # the GPS assigns to each waypoint-----that way I'll know what I'm looking at by refering to the picture----brush---stumps---rocks----long points----ditches----EtC----
