Anyone Teach Instead of 'Guide' Women and Teens?

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about running a "school" this spring and summer targeted to women and teens interested in bass fishing. I am thinking of a one-on-one or small group type of thing, possibly with some off-the-water instruction as well as on the water, both from the bank and in a boat. It would be marketed for novices so my focus would be on teaching the basics and enjoying the outdoors while hopefully catching some fish in the process. My thinking is that men don't want to, have the time to, or have the patience to teach their wives and children how to fish properly, that is, if they even know how. I could even do it as a summer camp type of thing.

Anyone from this board ever do something like this? I would love to hear how it went, what you charged, where you obtained your clients, etc. You can post your input here or email me. I appreciate any input you guys might have, even if you haven't done this exact type of thing.

Two things you will need liability insurance and a good lawyer. When your doing stuff like that with great intentions things go wrong and you might get hammered for it. If we didn't live in a sue happy world many doors would open up as an outreach to the youth and Lady anglers. If you are a federation member look into the rules governing stuff like this. If I remember correct you could be covered by BASS's insurance.

I do this all the time. I teach Boy Scouts the Fishing and Motorboating Merit Badges.

Chris is correct in saying be careful. The best thing to do is get several of your friends and the teens parents envolved. Never be alone with anyone. Always have someone else with you. There is safety in numbers. In scouts we practice the two leader to one boy approach.

I would also suggest looking online at the Boy Scouts of America web page. Do a search for the Fishing Merit badge book and read it. It is full of great ideas.

I am a teen getting into bass fishing! Maybe you can teach me!!! If not in person but over the internet??

I could use ANY information you can give! I am going to start fishing in the spring, probably by the middle of March or so, if you want to you can email me some information that you wanna send me, such as tips, hints or techniques and i would be more than happy to read them!

Just a suggestion.... ;)

God bless  8-)

I believe he was asking with the thought of charging for his services.

Two things come to mind; State licensing and Federal licensing. Check with your State to find out what licensing is needed to include City and County. Check with the Federal to determine if you will need an OUPV for the waters you plan of working.

Theres a night school college program  teaching women how to fish around here that been going for years and I believe the instructors get paid. After the course they fish a tourney.
