I use a device called a plug knocker. It saved me over $100 bucks the last year. It is basically a snap swival with a 2 oz lead wieght that you attach to you line when you get snagged. The plug knocker slides down the line to your lure. You then shake the rod tip up and down and the weight knockes the lure free.

I should mass produce them, I bet I make a mint.
