cold water bassin

Featured Replies

hey guys i just found out one of the good lakes around here all the ice is off now. the water in michigan is still cold but i want to go so bad. the water is in the 38 to 42 range. the lake has a slow moving river coming in the west side and a dam on the east side. theres laydowns and brush in the lake and some points. so any help of what kind of lures to use for these bass and the depth that wold be very nice thanks.

Jerkbaits worked for me a few days ago in 42-44 degree water. I would try to find the warmest water in the lake then fish it.

Senko's, jig and pig, would be good to try also.

yep,  find the warmest water available.  On any body of water,  the warmest part will the north/northwest part of that lake.  That should draw in the baitfish and then you have the food chain deal going on..........good luck.

I definately agree about looking for the warmest water. If there is a section of the lake that is a bit shallower sometimes that will help it warm up faster. I have this situation on my home lake. There is an arm of the lake that warms first and produces first but after the beginning of june is it less productive than the main part of the lake. I hit it hard early then it kind of peters out. I have pretty good luck with tubes in cold water. Another good approach is a drop shot set up if you find some fish on your electronics and need to work them slow.  Water temps are approaching 40 degrees here so we are kind of in the same boat.
