Goin' tomorrow, need advice

Featured Replies

OK, I am taking my new boat out for the first time tomorrow.  Going to hit a lake that is 110% capacity.  (Gushing over the spillway)  Water temp 60 degrees(2 day ago), calrity is 2-3 feet.  It has shallow grassy areas, shallow rocky areas, humps,  narrow channel areas and deep water.  Been warming up to 85 the last two day.  Expect sunny, clear skies.

What bait set up would you advise.

I have to have a great day for my first time out with the new boat!!  Need all the help I can get! ;D :-/ :-/ ;D

With that water temp and those air temps I usually start off slow with a light weight C-Rig with a 14inch leader. The lure is usually something simple and straight forward. I like a paddle tail worm. If the day before was sunny and warm I try to locate fish in the vicinity of thick cover but not in it. As the sun come out and starts to get up I move in closer to the cover and specifically target the laydowns and rockpiles on points leading back towards spawning areas with a Spot Remover or some type of jig. You should be in a solid prespawn pattern now and don't hesitate to go to the spawning area and look for those early beds. Males should be fanning and some females should be cruising.

Just off the top of  my head- Flukes and spinnerbaits through the grass, jigs over the rocks, and  rattle traps and a shad rap # 5 through the creek channel. Good luck!

Original Floating Rapalas #7,9&11 Silver or gold; Jointed Rapalas same size and numbers Work them slow and jerk them once in a while then to a dead stop then keep repeating all the way back to the boat Also at this time of the year I like to use Wild Eye Finesse Minnows on an octupus hook in Shiner

haha    the first time i took out my new boat a couple weeks ago  i was planning  all my fishing  strategies    when i got to the lake i  only ended  up fishing   for one hour     played with the boat rest of the time  gettin the feel for her   good luck  and have fun

If the lake is up and still up (not dropping significantly, I look at those grass flats that are submerged. I'd slow roll a spinnerbait through there. Whatever you do fish shallow.  If the water is dropping significantly look for the fish to back off to slightly deeper cover or structure.  I'd bang a crankbait off some secondary points or flip wood cover.

Try fishing the grass beds with a spinnerbait, rat-l-trap, and senko. A C-rig would probably be good too.

I would go with a spinnerbait and Rtl trap in the grass , but don't count out the rocks with a TRor CR worm.
