Differences in plastic worm manufacturers

Featured Replies

I went to Wal Mart today and of course I couldnt leave the bait monkey in the truck,so I brought him in with me.

Was looking to get some Plastic Worms(like I need more,I already dont use the ones I have) So anyway at the lake the other day while casting from the bank,a guy in a boat was telling me he was catching fish an a Renegade Electric Blue 6 inch worm(Wal Mart Cheapies). So You know I had to go get some . Well I was looking and examining the worms out of the package,I compared 2 different colors of Renegade worms and noticed they both had a different feel.

I look on the back of the package and one says "Manufactured by MANNS Bait company, and the other saidn "Manufactured by LUCK-E-STRIKE bait company. But both packages were Renegade worms

Baits looked identical except the MANNS worms had an oily residue and the LUCK-E-STRIKE worms seemed a bit less soft,no oily feel and had a scent of sweet grape.

Would any of those differences make a difference in the fish catching ability? Does the grape smell attract fish? Ive heard of people scenting thier baits with WD-40 and catching fish. Could this grape smell actually be a added scent thats included in the manufacturing process but isnt labeled on the packaging?

I know that any good worm fisherman could catch fish regardless of color or scent or brand, but this comparison brings out the curiousity in me. Anyone care to pick this one apart?

When it comes to Worms, especially 6 inch worms, I say it all comes down to presentation and what the fish want at the given time. If the bite is off and you are presenting them either a 6 inch worm, or a 7 1/2 inch worm, it won't matter. Just as long as the worm is presented to the fish properly ( Slowly and enticing) said fish will hit the bait.

Being on the environmental side of the issue, I would strongly suggest against using WD-40 for scenting! >:(  Not only will it be bad for the waters you're fishing, but the fish too.  If you eat bass, think about the WD-40...and if you release them, well, think about the WD-40.  There are many different opinions on whether scenting works or not, but I think most would agree to stick with the scents that are manufactured for that purpose.

I have never used WD-40 personally, just heard stories. I agree with the whole environmental issue, why intentionally spray petroleum lubricant into the water your fishing?
