need some advice

Featured Replies

I feel this is a dumb question but I throw it out there anyway, I need some advice on walking the dog I haven't used a spook or sammy before but went out today and bought some and haveing some problems working it right.  Is it best to use spinning gear or baitcasting gear, mono would be the line I would guess to be better suited to this technique, what pound test would be best. How do you work your rod to get the action just right.  Is it best on a slack line or tight. Anything you can give me will help

Personally, I think it's easier on a baitcasting gear and you want to have some slack in your line to let the bait glide side to side between twitches.  As for the action, just experiment with the angle and cadence of the rod along with when to take up the slack line and just practice....alot.

Try a bigger lure to start out with. They're easier to walk. You have to get a rythmn going. Lower your rodtip and start with slow twitches to one side. Say in your head: one two one two.... I had trouble with it when I started using them. Just sit and play with it for an hour or so until you get it mastered.

Good luck.

I use a med power rod for spooks and spool on Trilene XL 12 # test.I want all the forgivness I can get out of my rod and line to help keep a fish from throwing the treble hooks.I try not to jerk the rod on a strike.I like to hesitate then just sweep the rod back.

There are different speeds you will need to try.Sometimes slower with longer glides work better, sometimes fast choppier action is what you will want.A little slack in your line won't hurt.It will actually help the fish get a better hold on the lure and help keep you from jerking it away to fast.

Hope this will help you a little.
