dropshotting a hair jig

Featured Replies

i am thinking of trying this, but i have a question.  the only hair jigs i can find are by punisher.  the eyelet is on top of the head and i am wondering how this might work with a palomar knot and then the leader threaded back trough for the weight on the bottom.  anybody tried the drop shot hair jig.  seems like a good idea early season?

It would be easier if you used the hair jig as the weight on the bottom.  Tie a palomar knot to a drop shot hook and use something else like a fluke or finesse worm, then add the hair jig as the weight.  I don't think the rig would work correctly if you used two weights.

I have done this with some success, especially on a tough day. You really need to tie your own hair jigs on the drop shot hooks. Actually its more like a flyfishing fly than a hair jig, since you do not need the weight on the hook. Or you could buy a few flies. Try a wolllybugger in Brown or Green. You will catch a lot of bait fish, but may get a big surprise also. ;)
