Bizarre Catch - Does it count?

Featured Replies

I was fishing with my brother this weekend (Blydenburgh Lake on Long Island, NY) and he had a bizarre catch.  While reeling, he thought he got snagged on some weeds, it just felt like dead weight.  Halfway to the boat we realized he had a fish.  When he got it right to the boat it turns out that he didn't hook the fish, someone else did, but then their line broke with at least 20 feet of line still on the hook.  My brother crossed that line and dragged it in, with his lure several feet from the fish.  Now this was just two brothers fishing from a rowboat, but if this was a tournament, would that fish have counted?

I dont think so b/c he didnt hook it some one else did he just reeled it in. and was the fish alive.

The fish was alive...though definitely exhausted.

Sorry you'll only get a free lure outa that deal. However i did see someone on bass saturday catch a fish in shallow water the fish broke his line and after he re-tied he seen his line floating pulled on it and actually landed the fish by hand and it counted towards his limit.

It should count.  It was still HIS line and His lure.  If someone else came along and grab his line that had the fish on it then no it wouldn't count.  It is in fact a great story to tell.
