  1. I haven't tried mine yet, but there are lots of super cheap GoPro parts sets on Amazon. I just bought a 41 piece set, including a case for the camera, for $16. It has suction cup mounts and stick on mounts. Something in there has to work. I've seen similar sets as low as $6. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HGMKQEE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  2. Thanks guys. I fully appreciate pride of ownership. I'm someone who doesn't use a car wash because I don't want to introduce swirls to my paint; I hand wash my car regularly. There are a few logistical issues with keeping my boat on the trailer during fishing season. My garage (about 90 miles from the lake) is only 93" wide. The package width for the 175 TXW is 89" wide. And that's on the narrower end of aluminum boats of similar size; the Ranger RT 178 is 95" on the trailer. I have no experience towing a trailer. While I may be able to get the boat into the garage once a year for winter storage, I don't want to rely on that each time I use it. I have no other place to store it at my house. At the lake, we're not allowed to store a boat on a trailer on the property. We have access to a place to store the boat outdoors during the winter, but boats must be removed Spring-Fall. I will call some of the places that I know offer off-season boat storage to see if they have a place to keep boats during the season. It sounds like keeping the boat in the water will be convenient, but poses maintenance and wear issues. But at the same time, that may be my only option, aside from racking up thousands in storage fees.
  3. Thanks all for the feedback. I'm afraid a lift isn't in my future, and I actually don't have a place to store the boat on the trailer. Storing the trailer during the season when the boat is in the water is one of the logistical things I have to work out. In the off season I have a place (outdoors) where I can store the boat on the trailer near the lake; or I may be able to bring it back to my house to garage store it...but that's not going to be practical during the fishing season. Forgive my ignorance, but what's the issue with a waterline stain on the side of the boat? Is it purely an aesthetic thing? There's currently a pontoon boat at the dock that's a few years old and i don't notice any unsightly scum on it. I fish from that pontoon now, but it's far from ideal.
  4. Hey Everyone. Been a long time Bass Resource lurker, but don't post much...I think I have a handful of posts on an 11 year old account; ha! I've been thinking more and more about getting a bass boat. I'm researching everything like crazy, and getting hung up in the details since I'm starting from scratch with my boat knowledge (or lack there of). I don't see much info about keeping a bass boat in the water 24/7. I have access to a house with a dock in the water from mid-May to mid-October. If I get a bass boat, it would be stored at the dock during this time and I'd access it every couple weeks. I'm thinking about a boat like a Bass Tracker Pro Team 175 TXW. I see they sell a rope ratchet cover for it which says it can be used at the dock. Does anyone here do this? Is the rope ratchet cover easy enough to put on, and sturdy enough to stay on? Looks like there are cut outs in the cover for the dock lines, but I'd also have to have whips. Would you attach these to the same cleats as the dock lines, or would I need an additional attachment point added to the boat...and then the cover customized? I know I'd also need some kind of bilge pump system. Would you just use what's standard on the boat, or add a backup? Do these run off the trolling motor batteries or starting battery? I would have power at the dock to keep the TM batteries charged up. Thanks for your help!
  5. Four years ago, you started a similar thread. I was just getting back into fishing at the time and basically went down your list and bought one of each lure. I still seem to just replace what I lose from that original list. Guess I now have to try out your new list! I was able to find that thread so easily, because I sent it to a few others. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1141132893
  6. The Yakima Boat loader may help... It basically slides out from one of the crossbars from your roofrack, so that one of your crossbars is extending well beyond the side of your car. Then you only lift half the boat onto the extended crossbar. Then the other half the boat. So at any one time you're only lifting half the boat.
  7. Looks like Spruce Run rents boats. Is that place too big to fish effectively from a row boat? thanks.
  8. Thanks. I spoke to Captain Jackson, owner, of AJ's Freelancer (supposedly the longest running guide service in that area) and wound up booking a trip for next Saturday. He's not available at all this month, but he has other guides that are. AJ has been featured in In Fisherman and Bassmaster and trusts the guides that work for him. I guess he better, since it's his name on the company. Hopefully I'll have some good pictures to share after the trip!
  9. Hey... It turns out I'll be near Lake Toho for work next week. I think I'm going to stay an extra day and fish on Saturday. Anyone have any guide recommendations? I did some searching online and was impressed with the info on AJ's Freelancer Bass Guide Service website at - http://www.orlandobass.com/ Anyone use them? Any other recommendations? THANKS!
  10. When using a mono backing when spooling a baitcaster with braid, are you tying the two line types together, for one continuous line, or are you tying the braid around the mono...as if the mono were part of the reel? thanks! -graham
  11. The fish was alive...though definitely exhausted.
  12. I was fishing with my brother this weekend (Blydenburgh Lake on Long Island, NY) and he had a bizarre catch. While reeling, he thought he got snagged on some weeds, it just felt like dead weight. Halfway to the boat we realized he had a fish. When he got it right to the boat it turns out that he didn't hook the fish, someone else did, but then their line broke with at least 20 feet of line still on the hook. My brother crossed that line and dragged it in, with his lure several feet from the fish. Now this was just two brothers fishing from a rowboat, but if this was a tournament, would that fish have counted?
  13. The one that I bought has chains coming off of it as well. 8 inches or so. That way if you can't knock the lure free the chains might be able to catch a treble hook on your lure, and you can yank it free.
  14. This is not exactly true. SPF is not minutes between applications. It is a multiplier. See the quote below - "In theory the SPF is a multiplier that can be applied to the time taken to burn. For example, someone who would burn after 12 minutes in the sun would expect to burn after 2 hours (120 minutes) if protected by a sunscreen with SPF 10." Taken from - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunscreen#Sun_protection_factor It's effectivness depends on your skin type. BUT, as others have said, you shouldn't be using it just to avoid a sunburn, but also to avoid complications further down the road.
  15. I think you mean 128 quart.... 128 gallons is over 1,000 pounds.
  16. Big enough to eat the shirt off your back!!! (kidding)
  17. I'm sure you could use this Bass Pro product as inspiration and build it yourself... http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=73759&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults Also, Bass Pro has an article about sinking Crappie Cover...it gives you an idea about types of woods/trees to use if you go that route. http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.CFPage?mode=article&objectID=28881
  18. Yes, local laws must be followed. But the way you say it, if I'm throwing a lure and accidentally snag a fish, I just broke a law? I'd guess that CA law says that it is illegal to intentionally foul hook/snag, and any fish that is accidentally foul hooked must be released...which is why these guys couldn't keep the fish to have it officially weighed.
  19. The IGFA does not say that a foul-hooked fish is disqualified....all it says is that you cannot intentionally foul hook a fish. http://www.igfa.org/BookRule2004.pdf The only thing it says about foul-hooking is - The following acts will disqualify a catch: 5. Intentionally foul-hooking or snagging a fish. Equipment Regulations F. LURES - ... . The use of any lure designed to entangle or foul-hook a fish is prohibited. ... G. HOOKS FOR BAIT FISHING - A two-hook rig for bottom fishing is acceptable if it consists of two single hooks on separate leaders or drops. Both hooks must be imbedded in the respective baits and separated sufficiently so that a fish caught on one hook cannot be foul-hooked by the other.
  20. Is that the World Record largemouth? I think so. Will it be certified - I originally thought yes, knowing nothing about certifying fish, but after reading the rules I don't see how it can be, which is unfortunate. The IGFA rules for certifying a world record fish can be found at - http://www.igfa.org/BookRule2004.pdf A few rules that stand out to me that don't look like they were followed - The fish must be weighed by an official weighmaster (if one is available) or by an IGFA official or by a recognized local person familiar with the scale. Disinterested witnesses to the weight should be used whenever possible. No estimated weights will be accepted. Fish weighed only at sea or on other bodies of water will not be accepted. I've only seen that one photo of it, but I wonder if he followed this - In all cases, photographs should be taken of the fish in a hanging position and also lying on a flat surface on its side. The fish should be broadside to the camera and no part of the fish should be obscured. The fins must be fully extended and not obscured with the hands, and the jaw or bill clearly shown. Avoid obscuring the keels of sharks and tunas with a tail rope. When photographing a fish lying on its side, the surface beneath the fish should be smooth and a ruler or marked tape place beside the fish if possible. Photographs from various angles are most helpful. An additional photograph of the fish on the scale with actual weight visible helps to expedite the application. It's a shame. That lake is only 70 acres, now someone else knows the world record is in there and will get the proper credit for it. Another thought - even if it does get certified, it's out there still eating. Someone else will catch it and take it away from the lake and it will stand for another 70 years.
  21. check this - http://bassresource.com/fish/fishinglog3.gif there was also a fishing log thread about a month back (or so). If you search you may find it.
  22. I've never owned a boat, let alone totaled one, but if it's anything like owning and totaling a car, this isn't necessarily true. The insurance company pays you what it's worth, not what you owe. What if you owe more on the boat than it's worth? Let's say you buy a car for $20,000 with no money down. Drive off the lot and you now own a used car worth $17,000. Total it the next day, you'll get paid that $17,000, minus your deductible, but you still owe the bank $20,000. That's what gap insurance is for.
  23. Hey LBH... I agree with Jeff that $40-45 may be a bit much for a long sleeve shirt. Also, i've never seen a shirt with embroidering on the sleeves. It seems like it would make the sleeves a bit stiff. Have you looked into www.cafepress.com ? It's an online t-shirt (and anything else you could picture an image/log on) company. I've not used them but I'm pretty sure it works like this - You set up an online shop, for free. You upload an image and tell it them that you want this image to appear on shirts, mugs, hats, bags, etc. They will tell you that the base price for a shirt is X. you tell them that you want to mark up the shirts $5 (or whatever profit you want to make on each one). You still haven't paid anything out of pocket. You start publicizing the link to your new online shop. When people buy shirts, cafepress.com keeps the base price, and you keep the markup. Nothing out of pocket from you at all!
  24. I agree whole heartedly, and I don't think it would. On that car detailing website I linked to there are still a ridiculous number of discussions/debates about which polish works the best, leaves the best finish, etc. I think the same would happen here. Not to overstep my bounds, but the system that the other forum uses to rate is - http://www.censura.info/ Now I have no clue what it takes to run this website (I can't imagine it's easy), or implement such a feature, but should bassresource.com decide to go ahead and purchase something to help with the ratings (I think the product above is $135), I'd be more than willing to help out with a small donation. I only have a few posts, but I've been learning from this site for over a year. Thanks!
  25. Thanks for not shunning me! This does work...and I did this when I purchased a new rod/reel a few weeks ago, but having reviews all in one section might make browsing that much easier. I might know that I want a crank bait. If reviews are all in one spot I might be able to say, "whoa, this bait is consistently getting 5 stars... I should check this out." I frequent a car detailing message board that has a great review system. If you want to see what I'm talking about click the link below - http://autopia.org/reviews/ You'll see a list various detailing product groups. If you click on "Car Wash Shampoos", you'll be taken to a summary list of "all" the shampoos on the market. Click on "NXT Generation Car Wash" and you'll see an overview "stars" rating system, which is an average of everyone who has reviewed this product and you'll see an average "Stars" rating system for every other product in this group...to see how it compares to the average. You'll see an image and a brief product description (which I think is just the manufacturer's description), then you can scroll down to see all the individual reviews. I think it's a pretty slick system. I reckon it would be a bear to set up at first, and it would take a bit of work at first for everyone on the board to go in and enter reviews. But a few weeks after launching it would be pretty robust. Then each time you try a new lure you can just go in and add a review. thanks for listening!!!
